In this post, we will explain how to install Quod Libet (music player) on Ubuntu 22.04 and Linux Mint 21 system.
Quod Libet is a free and open source GTK+ music player for Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Quod Libet code is written in python and provides a simple user interface and uses the Mutagen tagging Library, its library organizer is able to handle big libraries of more 10,000 songs.
Like other modern music players, it also provides most of features like Unicode support, multimedia key support, Editing Tags, Internet Radio Support, Podcast support, create and managing library, Downloading Lyrics, Search browser, Creating Album List with Cover art and Support all audio formats.
Apart from these features, from the command line we can do the query on library and manage the player using shortcut keys.
Prerequisites
- Pre-Install Ubuntu 22.04 / Linux Mint 21
- Regular User with Sudo rights
- Internet connectivity
Installing Quod Libet from Default Package Repositories
In latest Ubuntu 22.04 and Linux Mint 21, quodlibet package and its dependencies are available in default package repositories. So, its installation is straight forward, Open the terminal and run following apt command,
$ sudo apt update $ sudo apt install -y quodlibet
Installing Quod Libet via PPA Repository
Run following command to enable PPA repository,
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lazka/ppa -y
After enabling PPA repository, execute following apt command to install latest and stable quodlibet,
$ sudo apt update $ sudo apt install -y quodlibet
Access Quod Libet
From the Activity, search ‘quodlibet’
Click on Quod Libet Icon
To add some music files to our Quode Libet Player, setup the library directories. click on ‘Set Up’
Scan and add library directories for your music files.
Remove Quod Libet
If you wish to remove quodlibet from your system, then run following command
$ sudo apt remove -y quodlibet
